is the book of revelation a prediction of things yet to come or is it a critique of issues in the author's own time?.

by no means a new topic for discussion but always worth a fresh airing .
i'd suggest that the 1st century was quite a well documented time.
we have lots of historical evidence for important people who actually existed.
Exodus 20:4 "You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below.
Maybe they were warned aginst doing this so that people didn't use images or statues to worship....something many of the churches need to remember.
i am an atheist.
i arrived at this juncture in my life despite not wanting to.
when i first met the witnesses at 22 i was a seeker looking for answers to the question of life - in other words, prime cult target material.

I disagree...I feel that Nick can be condescending and patronizing.
The constant comments to me that I am quote "Still not thinking" is extremely condescending.

I'll let tec answer that one sabastious....but here are my thoughts for what they are worth.
When we look inward and sense his spirit working in our lives...we allow him to direct our step and to guide us. We put our lives in his hands. And trust that he will look after us. When we are constantly looking for proof. We are looking outward. And we may not find him because it depends on what you are looking at, and what questions you are asking.
When I look outward, I see Gods creation all around us. I see Gods creation in people and their personalities. Their ability to love, hate, think, reason, create, invent, communicate, feel joy, sorrow, pain. These are all gifts. Gifts that make us human. Gifts from God.
Many don't see this. That is when you really need to look within. What is your purpose? Are we just meaningless chemicals accidentally put together? For what purpose? Are we just an accident? Look at the abilities we have, accidents just don't happen like that.
one day i hopped in a taxi and we took off for the airport.
we were driving in the right lane when suddenly a black car jumped out of a parking space right in front of us.
my taxi driver slammed on his brakes, skidded, and missed the other car by just inches!
Here's the book. Now go forth a preach the good news of Taxi Driver wisdom.
i don't know if anyone already posted this, but i'm sharing it just in case.. if you want to see how many times there's been a prediction for the end of the world, you may want to click here:.

well said tec...you do have a knack for that
after carefully evaluating the my current life situation, i've come to the conclusion that returning to the hall will be best for me.
i simply just don't fit in with the rest of the world.
i don't drink, smoke, have sex, go to clubs, listen to worldly music, watch movies, or gamble.
I am not a big fan of other churches...but in your case I would recommend trying a few to see how you like them. You will at least find other people there who have similar values to yourself and give a bit of balance to your work life. Of course they will not be perfect...but lets face it...neither are the people at the kingdom hall.
